According to the manual, the back up camera goes mounted on top of the licence plate with the licence plate screws. I proceeded to installing the camera, which nothing short of a hassle to say the least. After taking off the wireless antenna, I found that the back of the I4-BC, aside from the GPS enable/disable switch, had no distinguishing features. On the right hand side, I found a power jack, a 2.5 mm headphone jack, and an SD Card slot.

This will be extra helpful while navigating through the Windows CE environment which I will be talking about later in the review. Taking a closer look at the left hand side, I found that NEXTAR included a stylus with the I4-BC. This antenna also doubles as a mount, therefore if you are looking to mount this GPS unit on your windshield you will not be able to do so without using this particular piece of equipment. Well this "thingy" as I called it is actually an antenna for the wireless camera transmitter. As you can see from the pictures above, the I4-BC from NEXTAR does not look anything out of the ordinary with the exception of the big T-shaped looking thingy. Now that we have packaging out of the way, lets take a look at the GPS itself. Aside from the traditional GPS unit, a CD rom, a charger and a booklet, I was presented with a plethora of other things such as protective pouch for when you are not using the GPS, a back up camera which Nextar so heavily advertised on the front of the box, and a wall charger to charge your GPS at home. Inside the package I found quite a bit of goodies. As you can see from the pictures, everything is separated, categorized and bounded together. The reasoning behind this is probably somewhere along the lines of "If I were to be a shopper and saw this particular item in a store, the camera would most likely be the selling point for me." The word "Bonus" in the title of the I4-BC makes it seem like Nextar threw in just the goodie that other GPS manufacturers forgot.Īfter opening up the packaging, I was surprised by the level of organization which Nextar used. After presenting the user with a picture the GPS, they went an extra mile by displaying the back up camera through a see-through plastic at the bottom of the box. With a picture such as this one the shopper will be able to get an idea of how the GPS unit will look like in their car and approximately how much space it will occupy. On the front of the box you will find a picture of the I4-BC's in its natural environment. As you can see from the pictures above, the box displays a typical car dashboard with the I4-BC right smack in the middle of it.

The unit's name is I4-BC and it comes with a back up camera that is to be mounted on top of the license plate of the vehicle. With so many companies on the market competing for a share of your money, Nextar decided to introduce a unit with a back up camera to gain the edge. With so many devices in the market however, it becomes increasingly difficult to make a purchasing decision. In recent years great advances in these devices have taken place that make them easier to use, cheaper, and smaller. Using signals from multiple satellites to triangulate your location these small handheld devices can nearly pinpoint your location and help you find your way from point A to point B. These small devices are tremendously useful and the only cost to the consumer is the initial purchase of the device itself.
